About me

I'm glad you came to this page on my website to find out more about me. If you are anything like me finding out who is talking through the website is highly important. Taking advice, let alone health advice, from someone you don't know from Adam can be a scary thing.

So, about me...

I live in Canada with my dairy farmer husband and 3 of our 6 children. We are blessed to have all of our adult children living close by and to also have two beautiful grandchildren.

My journey towards herbal medicine had begun, I believe, back when I was a teenager. I wanted to be a doctor. I wanted to know how people's bodies worked and how to help them get better when suffering. Instead, I married at nineteen and started a family soon after. All through those years of raising children, adopting two more children and being a wife and mom, natural health was an interest. Oh, I fell off the health wagon every so often but for the most part I wanted to choose healthy ways of living.

Perhaps it was part of my Dutch heritage that always wanted to make things myself, but several years ago I started making our own salves, tinctures, herbal body care products and herbal teas. There was a great sense of satisfaction in gathering herbs from the wild or my garden and making our own remedies. This hunger for learning about herbal remedies led me to searching for correspondence courses on becoming a herbalist.

What I found were a lot of schools centering on a new age philosophy of herbal medicine - something I was not interested in. I was eventually led to a school of natural health that had a biblical perspective to herbal medicine. It was here that I began to sink my teeth into a balanced, evidence based curriculum on herbal medicine.

In the midst of all that we brought home our two adopted boys from Haiti. They came with their fair share of parasites and other health issues. Both of them responded very well to natural remedies I gave as well as through homeopathic remedies. This spurred my desire to learn more.

To date I have my certification as a family herbalist and am working towards certification as a master herbalist. All from an evidence based and biblical perspective.

So from a teenager with dreams of becoming a doctor and helping others to a wife, mom, and grandma helping others with herbal remedies advice, I feel like I've come full circle.
