Athletes Foot Cures

Athletes foot cures that can be done at home safely and effectively!

So what does athlete's foot, toenail fungus, jock itch, and ringworm all have in common?

Fungi named tinea!

Athletes foot is known as tinea pedis and usually occurs between the toes and toenails, although it can affect any spot on the foot. The skin will look cracked, red and scaly and may burn or itch.

Fungi love moisture and warmth! People with sweaty feet or who frequent public showers, locker rooms and gym floors may contract this fungi. My daughter came back from a missions trip to Haiti with an athlete's foot souvenir between her toes. The combination of living in sandals all the time and the moist tropical climate was enough to do it for her! She has had great success with these athlete's foot cures.

Prolonged use of antibiotics and corticosteroids can also disrupt the balance of good bacteria in our system. Good bacteria prevents fungal overgrowth. This applies to other fungal infections as well such as yeast infections.

If you find that the athletes foot cures listed here are not helping your condition then please see a doctor! Most of the time, however, athlete's foot can be treated at home.

Preventing Athletes Foot

  • Change socks whenever feet become sweaty.
  • Always airdry feet after showers and before putting socks on. In fact, on hot days go barefoot!
  • Restore intestinal flora with probiotics or good yogurt during and after antibiotics use.
  • Fungus feeds on sugar and alcohol so reducing these in our diet will help in preventing fungal overgrowth.

Well, maybe it's too late for preventative measures and you are experiencing a full blown case of red itchy feet! Read on...

Athletes Foot Cures

Garlic
Consuming 500 - 1000 mg of garlic two times a day will only help boost the immune system but also fight the fungal infection.

Probiotics
Fight the fungus with probiotics or a good yogurt with live bacterial cultures. Friendly bacteria is needed to prevent fungal overgrowth.

Echinacea Tincture
Take a half teaspoon or 2.5 ml three times a day. Echinacea is known for its antifungal properties.

Oregano Oil
Oregano oil (origanum vulgare) can be applied topically. It has powerful antifungal properties. Look for something that contains at least 75% carvacrol The kind I use is diluted 1:3 in olive oil already. That would be 1 drop oregano oil to 3 drops olive oil. Apply directly to the infected area.

Tea Tree Oil
Dilute tea tree oil half and half with olive oil and apply to fungal infection. Repeat twice daily for 6-8 weeks.

Chamomile Tea
Apply chamomile tea to the fungal infection. Chamomile has soothing effects and offers antifungal properties. The stronger the tea the more potent its effects.

Calendula Cream
Calendula is wonderful to grow in the garden and offers so much to our skin! Applying a cream made from calendula petals between tea tree or oregano applications will promote skin healing and offer antiseptic effects.
