Cold Remedies

Natural cold remedies that are safe for sore throats, coughs and flu. Many of these cold remedies and flu remedies use common kitchen ingredients.

Just what is the difference between colds and flu, anyways?

The way the two are treated are the same but the symptoms are different.

Symptoms of a cold:

  • Viral infection

  • No headache or fever

  • Coughing, sore throat, sneezing, stuffy or runny nose

  • Tired, achy feeling

  • Comes on slowly and lasts a week

Cold Remedies

Children's Composition Glycerite
This special children's formula contains yarrow, elderflower, and peppermint. For many years, people have used this combination to build the immune system and aid the body in healing itself during a cold. Make this simple children's cold remedy in less than an hour!

Echinacea Tincture
Traditionally used for building the immune system, and for anti-viral and anti-bacterial uses, echinacea is an old ally for the common cold.
I'll show you how to make this easy tincture with just the herb, vodka and normal kitchen supplies.

Ginger Tea
It's helpful to make this tea and put it in a thermos to keep warm and drink from throughout the day. Ginger, honey, echinacea, and lemon help activate the body to heal itself during a cold. Begin drinking this yummy tea at the first signs of a cold. For me that would be a tired feeling with a bit of a sore throat.

Hydrotherapy
Something that I've done for my boys when they were miserable with colds was put cold, wet socks on them and send them to bed! What I was accomplishing in my insanity is called Hydrotherapy. Hydrotherapy is useful for a minor cold as it uses water to create a change in the body. Hydrotherapy treatments increase circulation and help with congestion.
This is nice to do before bed as you'll sleep like a babe afterwards.

Eucalyptus Steam
Head and chest congestion can be relieved with these herbs for congestion and a pan of boiling water.
