High Blood Pressure HerbsTake control of your blood pressure with natural remedies such as high blood pressure herbs.
High blood pressure hits a little too close to home for me, as my mother has had it for years. My older sister
has experienced a number of strokes and has to have her blood pressure closely monitored.
High blood pressure, also known as hypertension, is a consistent reading higher than 140/90. What do those numbers mean?
The upper number is the pressure the blood exerts on the arterial walls when the heart pumps out the blood and the lower number is at rest, or between pumps.
A normal blood pressure reading would be in the range of 110-130/70-85.
Severe hypertension would be 180 or higher/110 or higher.
As blood circulates through the body it puts pressure against the walls of the arteries. When that pressure
is too high it places stress on the heart.
All that stress can lead to stroke, heart disease, diabetes, eye damage and kidney problems.
Many people have hypertension and are not experiencing any symptoms. That is why it is vital to have your
blood pressure checked regularily to find out just how you are doing. Some possible symptoms people may experience
(and which you should see a doctor about) are:
Eat lots of onions, garlic, parsley, and celery. These are all known to keep blood pressure down. TIP: Cut up your onions and garlic and leave exposed to air for 10 minutes before using in cooking. Their nutritional value is greatly increased! Exercise regularily to keep blood pressure in normal ranges. AVOID:
The herbs licorice, chinese ginseng and ephreda are all known to raise blood pressure.
Avoid these if you have hypertension! High Blood Pressure RemediesAs well as following the above prevention measures consider these hypertension treatments and high blood pressure herbs:Hawthorn This wonderful berry from the hawthorn tree dilates the artery walls thus decreasing blood pressure. Certain chemical constituents in the berries seem to enhance enzyme metabolism and oxygen utilization in the heart muscle. It may take a few months for effects to be noticeable. Garlic German Commission E recommends 4 mg of fresh garlic a day. Several studies confirm garlic's ability to lower blood pressure. Coenzyme Q10 Coenzyme Q10 (Co-Q10) is a vitamin-like nutrient that fuels the body's cells with special benefits to the circulatory system. Studies seem to indicate a healthy benefit for blood pressure. Celery Eating four stalks of celery daily lowers the blood pressure significantly in just a few days! These herbs can also be considered high blood pressure herbs as they act help with stress and anxiety which may cause high blood pressure: Valerian tincture relaxes the nerves and acts as a sedative. Chamomile tea and oatstraw infusions also help as tonics for the nerves. Passionflower is great for nerve relaxation. |
