Home Remedies For Colds:Hydrotherapy

Home Remedies For Colds
Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy is one of the best home remedies for colds as it uses water to create a change in the body. Hydrotherapy treatments increase circulation and help with congestion.

Something that I've done for my boys a few times when they were miserable with colds was put cold, wet socks on them and send them to bed! Seriously! But there is a method to my madness... What I was accomplishing in my insanity is called Hydrotherapy. It has been used for a long time in helping the body to heal itself.

This is nice to do before bed as you'll sleep like a babe after it.

Anyone with vascular diseases or Raynaud's Disease should not use this treatment.

What you will need:
  • thin pair of cotton socks
  • thick pair of wool socks
  • lavender essential oil
  • 1 cold basin of water
  • 1 warm basin of water or a warm bath
  • Lemon Echinacea Ginger Tea (optional)

Follow these easy steps for one of the best home remedies for colds:
  1. Begin by placing a few drops of essential oil in the cold basin of water.
  2. Put the foot part of the thin cotton socks in the water and drape the ankle part of the sock over the edge of the basin. It's only necessary to get the foot part of the sock wet.
  3. Let this sit in the water while soaking your feet in the warm basin of water for 10 minutes or so. I prefer to just take a warm bath.
  4. Why not sip a cup of chamomile tea (for kids) or Lemon Echinacea Ginger Tea while soaking! The idea is to get your feet warm, tea or not.
  5. Dry off, get your jammies on.
  6. Wring out the cold socks and put on your warm feet. Yuck! I know!
  7. Cover the wet socks with the wool socks. Hop into bed and pull up the covers.
  8. Good night!

You're probably wondering how in the world this could be considered one of the best home remedies for colds!
Wearing those cold wet socks in bed will accomplish this...

a. You'll feel really sleepy.
b. Your body will try and warm up your feet, stimulating circulation.
c. The congestion in your head, throat, and lungs will be decreased.
d. Your immune response will be stimulated.

In the morning the cotton socks will be dry and you'll feel so much better. This treatment can be repeated for three nights in a row.
