Lip Balm Recipes

Learn how to make your own lip balm with these easy lip balm recipes.

When I was making and selling my bath and body care products, this was one of the top sellers. Made with nourishing oils and butters, it softens and can actually taste quite pleasant!

The wonderful tastes come from adding essential oils or flavor oils. Peppermint is my favorite essential oil and mango flavor oil is a popular one.

Using some infused herb oil might be very nice for the carrier oil in this recipe.
For cold sores, use an infused lemon balm oil.
For irritation and chapness, use an infused calendula oil.

Tubes are really handy for containing the balm but you could use any small pot. You can purchase tubes or even small pots at Mountain Rose Herbs.

Carrier Oils

Jojoba oil
Sweet Almond oil
Hemp oil (my favorite)
Emu oil (just .5 oz or so)
Sunflower oil
Herbal Infused Oil
- calendula, chamomile, lemon balm

How To Make

What you will need:

1 oz (25g) beeswax

1.25 oz (30g) shea butter

.75 oz (20g) cocoa butter

2 oz (50g) carrier oil or infused oil

  1. Melt all ingredients together in the top of a double boiler.
  2. When slightly cool, add 36 drops peppermint essential oil or any flavor oils.
  3. Pour into tubes or small pots and cap.
  4. Let sit undisturbed until hardened.
Makes 30 tubes.

Pouring this into tubes is a little tricky. Set up all the tubes in a cake pan to catch any drips and use a measuring cup with a spout to pour.

You can get butters, oils and infused oils, beeswax, and essential oils at Mountain Rose Herbs
