Natural Allergy Remedies

Natural allergy remedies can help lessen the severity of allergies. Not only for an allergy but also for many other diseases that allergies contribute to.

Many preschool children are diagnosed with an allergy and many school aged children require special consideration while attending schools. Something as simple as another child's peanut butter sandwich in the lunch room could be fatal to an allergic child.

Allergies occur when the immune system becomes unusually sensitive and overreacts to substances that are normally harmless, such as pollen, mold, dust, and food. These substances are then known as allergens.

During an allergic reaction allergens come into contact with special cells located in the lungs, nose, intestinal tract and skin. Special antibodies that are on these cells release chemicals, one of which is histamine, and the results are inflammation and the symptoms of allergy.

The most well-known symptoms of allergy are:

  • sneezing
  • runny nose
  • itchy eyes and ears
  • severe wheezing
  • coughing
  • shortness of breath
  • sinus problems
  • sore palate
  • nettle-like rash
  • These symptoms are very annoying and at times can be life-threatening as in the case of asthma and a peanut allergy.

According to Kenneth Block, author of Healing the New Childhood Epidemics, allergies are behind many of the following disorders:

  • ADHD
  • Arthritis
  • Autism
  • Asthma
  • Candida
  • Ear infections
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome
  • Chronic pain
  • Cognitive and mood disorders
  • Eating disorders
  • Eczema
  • Hives
  • Acne
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Hay fever
  • Headaches
  • Hypoglycemia
  • Insomnia
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Obesity
  • Sinusitis
  • In fact if the allergies are reversed with natural allergy remedies or the allergens avoided, some of these disorders may lessen in severity.

Why our immune systems attack harmless substances:

Nutritional Deficiencies such as our food not being properly broken down and a permeable gut lining will trigger our immune system to attack with an allergic response.

Not having enough of the following:

  • Probiotics
  • Essential fatty acids
  • Vitamins and minerals
  • Stomach acid
  • Digestive enzymes
  • All contribute to someone getting allergies.

Immune overload. Our immune system can only handle so much, and an immune overload of pathogens and foreign material (viruses, bacteria, heavy metals, environment toxins, junk food, and inhalant allergens) causes our system to handle little else. An innocent food allergen tips the immune system over the edge. This immune overload is the most important force that causes allergies. Antibiotic overuse also affects our immune system and contributes to allergies.

Inflammation contributes to allergies and allergies contributes to inflammation. Quite often inflammation in the airway passages are exacerbated by an inflammation in the gut. When the intestinal inflammation is dealt with, the airborne allergies can be resolved. Food is a major contributor to inflammation. Inflammations can be caused by stress, infections, and childhood vaccinations as well.

True allergies cannot be reversed but the severity of them can be decreased with natural allergy remedies. However, sensitivities and intolerance to food can be reversed. Visiting an autism doctor who is well versed in the DAN! (Defeat Autism Now!) principles will also benefit someone with allergies. That is because some of the root causes and thus their treatments, are the same for both.

    Natural Allergy Remedies

    Avoid allergens.
This seems like a no-brainer! But knowing what the offending allergens are needs to be accomplished by allergy tests and an elimination diet. Eliminating the six most common allergens (dairy, wheat, corn, soy, peanuts and eggs) one at a time and reintroducing them one at a time can help detect food allergies. Don't forget to avoid the environmental toxins as well!

Eat whole foods that are organic and nutrient dense. Avoid yeast-proliferating foods and eat gluten and casein free.

Probiotics such as yogurt, kefir and probiotic supplements. These all help with digesting food and creating a lining on the intestinal gut. Particles of undigested food have less of a chance to create food allergies.

Multivitamins to deal with the deficiencies of key nutrients in the body.

Digestive enzymes will help to replace the enzymes that are more than likely not in our gut.

Cod Liver Oil, high in EFA, Vitamin A and D is also beneficial.

Try not to only seek relief from your allergies but work towards a plan to lessen or eliminate your allergies!
