Natural Remedies For Gout
Arnica Ointment

Natural remedies for gout that can be made at home!

Arnica flowers and cayenne made into a salve will help with gout and arthritis pain.

Arnica flowers are a great anti-inflammatory. This beautiful flower has also been traditionally used as an analgesic (pain reliever).

Cayenne creates stimulant activity! Any formulas are enhanced with cayenne as it increases the blood circulation making the formula more absorbent and effective. It also has anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects.

You don't want to use this ointment over long periods of time as it can cause a skin reaction. Use only when needed and take breaks from use.

Making an ointment requires two simple steps. The infused olive oil and then adding the beeswax to make it solid.

As good as it is for gout and arthritis, sore muscles can benefit from arnica ointment as well. I've applied this ointment to my son's sore neck and shoulders after a hard day of framing houses. He found it very effective!

What you will need

  • 1 oz dried arnica (arnica montana) flowers
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne (capsicum annum) powder
  • 10 oz olive oil
  • 1 oz beeswax

Follow these simple steps

  1. Place the arnica flowers and cayenne in an oven safe bowl.
  2. Add the olive oil over top and stir. The flowers should be completely covered, add a little more oil if needed.
  3. Preheat oven to 200 degrees Fahrenheit. Turn oven off.
  4. Place bowl in oven and leave for 3 hours.
  5. Take out of oven and place on counter for another 5 hours.
  6. Strain through a piece of cheesecloth or muslin several times. Squeeze out all the oil.
You have just made arnica/cayenne infused oil! Natural remedies for gout, arthritis and sore muscles are easy, aren't they?

Now you could just rub the oil directly on the painful joints and muscles but it is much easier making it into a solid preparation.

  1. Put your arnica infused oil into the top of a double boiler.
  2. Grate the beeswax and add to the arnica oil.
  3. Simmer the water in the bottom of the double boiler until the beeswax on top is melted . Stir often.
  4. Pour into jars, cap and let cool in fridge.
