Reishi Mushroom
Ganoderma lucidum
Reishi mushroom has been used for thousands of years in Chinese medicine. It is commonly
known as an adaptogen. Adaptogens increase the body's ability
to withstand physical, biological, emotional and environmental stressors.
The mushroom shows some antioxidant activity and helps to protect the liver from damage to toxicity.
It is an anti-inflammatory and antibacterial making it useful for skin inflammations.
This fungus is especially potent in treating immune dysfunctions, particularly allergies,
chronic immune weakness and poor resistance.
It is also used as a chemoprotective. This makes it useful in cases of cancer and other diseases
where massive oxidative damage
has occurred such as in chemotherapy.
The mushroom also has vascular effects and benefits circulation. It helps in lowering blood pressure.
It also inhibits cholesterol synthesis and platelet aggregation, making it useful for those with high cholesterol.
No complications have been observed in pregnant women who consume this mushroom. However, caution should
be used with those on blood thinners.
Use this mushroom in cooking and in soups. The dried, powdered form can be sprinkled on food. Dried slices can be steeped in tea. Capsules can also be used.
