Also known as Golden root, and artic root. This herb grows in cold, mountainous locations of Europe and Asia.
The root of this herb is considered to have cardioprotective effects.
It stimulates the nervous system and reduces stress related anxiety.
Studies have shown a positive effect on mild to moderate depression.
There are no known drug interactions, unlike the popular antidepressant herb St John's Wort.
This herb also strengthens the respiratory system making it useful for respiratory infections and colds and flues.
It is an antiviral and helps regulate the immune system. This herb also reduces high altitude sickness
As with many adaptogens the root increases physical endurance, reduces mental stress and reduces the effects of aging.
It also affects the adrenal glands making it helpful with adrenal fatigue a common occurence with stress.
This root has also shown to be protective during chemotherapy, and is considered an antitumor herb.
The typical preparation is teas, tinctures and capsules.
Those with bipolar disorders should not consume this herb.
