Sore Throat Remedies Lozenges
Lozenges
One of the first signs of a cold is a sore throat.
Using sore throat remedies lozenges immediately will usually help soothe a sore throat.
The kind of throat lozenges you buy in the store doesn't really reduce the inflammation of a sore throat.
Rather they numb the throat so you don't feel the pain. This may be a relief but it still doesn't take care
of the real problem.
Herbal sore throat remedies lozenges actually take care of the inflammation as well as provide relief.
Slippery Elm inner bark is an excellent herb for sore throats and coughs. Containing mucilage, it helps to soothe the
throat and reduce inflammation. Make slippery elm into lozenges or into a tea. Capsules will not be effective
for sore throats as the herb has to come into direct contact with the sore throat.
Honey is also very soothing for a sore throat. Mixing the slippery elm and the honey together will
give a double dose of sore throat cures!
What you will need
- 1/2 cup Slippery Elm Powder
- 2 Tbsp honey
- Few drops essential oil if desired (lemon or orange)
Make your own home remedies for sore throats by following these easy steps:
- Mix the slippery elm powder and honey together.
- Add more honey if necessary.
- Drop in the essential oil and mix until a ball forms when pressed together. I usually add a few drops of water at this point to help it stick together.
- Press into a candy mold, roll into balls and flatten slightly, or roll out and cut with a thimble. Working with damp hands will help.
- Allow to dry for 24 hours.
This makes 20-24 small lozenges. Take as often as needed. These will last for a couple of weeks.
I have stored mine in the freezer in a ziploc bag and they have kept beautifully for a longer period of time.
