Dr. James Duke has recommended ginger as a home remedy for toothaches. However, there may be sensitivity to ginger so proceed with caution and immediately rinse off if this toothache remedy burns. Take powdered ginger (from your spice drawer) and mix with a little olive oil until a paste is formed. Use a cotton swab to apply some of the paste onto the sore tooth. Yarrow:In my part of the world, yarrow grows abundantly in fields. Many people have yarrow growing in their gardens, too. Simply chew on the flowers or leaves and leave some packed on the sore tooth. It will have a tingling feeling in your mouth but leave it on as long as possible. Yarrow also makes great home remedies for whitening teeth! Spilanthes:This plant is known as "toothache plant" in some parts of the world. It grows in South America but seeds are readily available in North America to grow your own. Like yarrow, simply take some spilanthes flower and chew on it. Leave it packed on the tooth for as long as possible. Warm salt waterIt doesn't get any easier than this. Stir a half teaspoon of salt into a glass of warm water and rinse the affected area with it. These toothache remedies should hold you over until you get to the dentist.
